Syrian P.M. Al-Halqi: Government Open to Political Forces, Welcomes Efforts to Make Dialogue a Success

Damascus – (Syriaonline). Prime Minister, Wael al-Halqi, stressed the importance of the government’s consultative meetings and openness to all political forces who want to engage with the political process and contribute to reaching joint visions in order to make the political program for solving the crisis in Syria a success as it is the only and objective way out of the crisis.

Premier al-Halqi’s remarks came at the meeting of the ministerial committee tasked with implementing the political program to solve the crisis in Syria with Secretary General of the Syrian National Youth Party, Maher Merhej and members of the party’s political bureau.

Al-Halqi reviewed the procedures taken at the preparatory stage to launch the dialogue and the government’s executive steps in this regard in terms of settling the cases of detainees, the return of displaced Syrians and the guarantees provided to ensure safe return for them, in addition to giving those who got involved in internal events the opportunity to surrender their weapons and come back to their normal life.

In turn, the Syrian National Youth Party leadership voiced its support to the political program and participation in dialogue, stressing its keenness on making it a success.

It noted that the dialogue should be among Syrians and on the Syrian territories without foreign interventions.

The Syrian National Youth Party Secretary General and members presented their proposals on mechanisms of implementing the political program stages, calling upon the government to take a number of measures to consolidate confidence among all sides which will participate in dialogue.

They also called for combating terrorism, communicating with opposition forces inside Syria and abroad and providing legal guarantees for holding dialogue with them.

In this regard, the Premier briefed the party’s members on procedures taken by the government to communicate with Syrian citizens in the neighboring countries and the guarantees offered for their return and halting prosecutions against opposition political figures who will participate in dialogue.

The committee welcomed cooperation among all national forces to make the national dialogue a success, come out of the crisis and contribute to overcoming the current circumstances in order to build democratic Syria that meets the Syrians’ aspirations.

In a statement following the meeting, Merhej said the meeting with the Ministerial committee resulted in clarifications on a number of the items included in the political program, and put practical mechanisms to make the comprehensive dialogue a success and find confidence between the government and opposition.
