Pakistan´s Parliament approves I-P Pipeline; Iran´s Tadbir Energy to build Pakistan Section.
Christof Lehmann (nsnbc). Pakistan´s Parliament has approved of awarding the contract for building the Pakistani stretch of the I-P Gas-pipeline to Iran´s Tadbir Energy. Construction of the multi-billion Dollar project is planned to be completed in 2015. The contract was awarded to Tadbir Energy after both Russia and China have withdrawn from the negotiations about the project. The I-P Gas-pipeline will change the energy and energy-security dynamics of the region.
According to Iranian sources as well as analysts, the Russian and Chinese withdrawal from the project was caused by US-Pressure against the project and risk factors, which are tied to the strong US/NATO influence and interests in the region. The Russian and Chinese withdrawal from the project could ultimately be described as a Russian and Chinese transference of the economical responsibility for their own energy-security agency to Iran and Pakistan.
In a recent interview with Christof Lehmann, the retired Pakistani Major and energy-security consultant Agha H Amin emphasized that the US/NATO is ultimately planning the establishment of a NATO-corridor from Turkey to India, along what Amin describes as the soft, oil-rich underbelly of Russia and China, as well as the division of Pakistan into smaller states.1)
The contract for the I-P pipeline will be signed between the Pakistan´s Interstate Gas Systems and Iran´s Tadbir Energy. The capacity of the pipeline is estimated at 750 mlm by December 2014. The gas will be delivered to power plants to generated an estimated 4.000 megawatts of electricity.
Initially India was involved in negotiating the project and a continuation of the pipeline to India. Lack of timely commitment however, motivated Pakistan to go ahead unilaterally. The I-P pipeline will make Pakistan less vulnerable in case of a conflict with India. After the completion of the pipeline, Pakistan´s security and energy-security will also be less vulnerable to security factors pertaining Afghanistan, where the US/NATO is likely to maintain a presence beyond 2014, and according to many analysts, beyond 2025.
The project is planned to start at Iran´s Assalouyeh Energy Zone and to traverse both Baluchistan and Sindh in Pakistan. It is possible though, that the route could be altered due to negotiations with China. The gas will be provided from Iran´s South Pars gas field in Iran´s Bushehr province.
The Pars gas fields, which are shared between Qatar and Iran, are the worlds largest known gas fields. Since their discovery in 2007 the Pars gas-fields have significantly changed the global energy and energy security dynamics. The attempted subversion of Syria is a direct result of a lack of convergence in the energy requirements of Iran, Russia, Iran and Syria, of the European Union, and of Qatar and the USA.
