Chistof Lehmann (nsnbc, SANA, RT & Agencies) -The General Command of the Syrian Army and Armed Forces informed, that Israeli warplanes have violated Syrian airspace on Wednesday at dawn and bombarded a scientific research center which is responsible for raising resistance and self-defense capabilities in the Jamraya area near Damascus.

Israeli Jets nsnbc archivesThe General Command stated, that the attack came, after Israel and other countries who oppose the Syrian people, had utilized their pawns in Syria to attack select vital and military locations in an attempt to undermine Syria’s support for the resistance, and after these pawns two years lasting failure to carry out successful strikes at sites such as air defense systems.

The General Command stated, tToolshat Israeli warplanes snuck in from the north of the Al-Sheikh Mountain, flying at low altitude and below radars, while they were heading to Jamraya in the Damascus Countryside, The jets bombed a department of a science and research center and left Syrian territory again, also flying below Syrian radar.

The aggression, which resulted in the death of two and and which injured three workers, caused considerable material damage to the building, to a vehicular development center and to an adjoined garage.

The statement stressed, that the allegations of some media outlets, that the Israeli warplanes targeted a convoy headed from Syria to Lebanon are baseless. The General Command affirmed, that the Israeli warplane targeted a scientific research facility in a blatant violation of Syrian sovereignty and airspace.

The General Command said that it has become clear to everyone that Israel is a motivator, beneficiary and sometimes executor of the terrorist acts which target Syria and its peoples´ resistance, with some countries that support terrorism being accomplices in this, primarily Turkey and Qatar.

The General Command further stated, that the blatant act of aggression adds up to Israel’s long history of aggression and crime against Arabs and Muslim, and that it demonstrated Israeli arrogance and its grave transgression upon Syrian sovereignty before the international community.

The General Command of the Army and Armed Forces concluded its statement by affirming, that such criminal acts will not weaken Syria and its role and will not dissuade Syrians from continuing to support resistance movements and just Arab causes, primarily the Palestinian cause.

The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossin Amir Abdollahin said that Tel Aviv would face repercussions for the Israeli air strike. The Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akhbar Salehi condemned what he characterized as “brutal aggression“. The Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali-Abdul Karim Ali says that Damascus has “the option and the surprise to retaliate“, without disclosing details about what the surprise Israel may have to expect.

Hezbollah condemned the air strike, saying that it was an attempt to cripple Arab military capabilities. Hezbollah called for “wide-scale condemnation from the international community” and expressed its solidarity with the Syrian leadership, army and people.

On Thursday, 31 January, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also expressed his concerns over the Israeli air strike, saying that “any unprovoked attack on the territory of a sovereign state is in violation with the UN Charter“.

Analysts, including the scribe, evaluate the Israeli attack as an attempt to provoke a  response from Hezbollah or Syria which could be used as a pretext for widening the conflict and a military aggression against Syria or southern Lebanon.

Recent developments indicate that the attempts to subvert Syria by means of mercenaries and terrorism are failing. A military “intervention” based on a Security Council resolution has so far been prevented by Russia and China. Meanwhile, the Syrian national reconciliation and reform process is picking up momentum.

Israel´s early dawn attack may be a last and desperate attempt to create the facts on the ground that force stakeholders into an open war.
